Not All Plastic Is the SameThe word “plastic” covers many different materials. They have different properties, processing temperatures, and areas of application. That is why the first and most important stage is not shredding, but proper sorting.At Recast Plastic, we work with HDPE, marked as 2, and PP, marked as 5. These types of plastic are not mixed together. Careful control of the raw material helps us achieve predictable material properties and consistent quality in the finished product.
From Waste to Finished Furniture• Collection and selection of raw materials. Plastic comes from businesses, partner initiatives, and other sources. The raw material is inspected and separated by type.• Cleaning and preparation. Foreign materials and contaminants are removed from the plastic, after which it is shredded into a fraction suitable for further processing.• Material forming. Under controlled heat, the plastic becomes a homogeneous mass from which sheets are formed.• Cutting and processing. Parts are cut according to technical drawings, sanded, polished, and prepared for assembly.• Product assembly. Plastic components are combined with frames, fasteners, and other elements whenever the design requires them.• Quality control. The geometry, joints, stability, and appearance of the finished product are checked.
Why Every Surface Has Its Own PatternRecycled plastic does not try to imitate marble or wood. Its speckles and variations reflect the specific batch of raw material from which it was made. Even within the same colour palette, two sheets may look slightly different. This uniqueness is what makes the material distinctive and recognisable.
For a project, you can choose a restrained black-and-white combination, bold corporate colours, or a neutral palette. The pattern becomes part of the design without affecting the functionality of the material.
